Even though the con is over six months away, I'm vaguely contemplating whether to do an SS/LE meetup at Infinitus. I'd like to, but I'm utterly unable to have a clue when it comes to venue since I live ~2450 miles away (as the great circle flies; add 400 miles on the ground). I'm wondering if it might be better to contact programming enough ahead of time that we could get one of the con meeting rooms, becuase keeping cost down is always good, but maybe there's something simply smashing in walking distance that I'm just not aware of? And what's this "CityWalk" thing that appears to be part of the resort complex?

This is very much preliminary interest gauging / general brainstorming time, so anything goes.

Crossposted (sorta) to azkatraz_ssle. If you are going to Azkatraz and would be interested in this meetup, you may wish to join that community. I will probably use it to take a preliminary headcount around the 15th of July (although I am really only expecting a small group).

I received an email from the flock coordinator asking me to confirm the details I had submitted, and I chose to take the opportunity to make a slight change in the starting time for the Sev/Lily meetup to give it a bit more breathing room vis-a-vis the azkatraz_snape meetup starting at 4 PM. I couldn't bring myself to go as far back as 1:00, but the meetup will now be beginning at 1:30 PM.

These are the details:

Flock: Severus/Lily Meetup

Theme: Fans of the Severus Snape / Lily Evans (Potter) 'ship. This will be a casual discussion meetup with no particular activities scheduled (none planned as of 6/15/09, anyway). You can join us for lunch or just drop by for a drink or a coffee. If you like Severus and Lily together, we'd love to see you there!

Date/Time: Friday, July 17th, 1:30 PM (no set ending time, but we're likely to be gone by 4 PM)

Cost: No space cost, but pay for any food or drink yourself (see menu on the restaurant website, link below).

Location: Lefty O'Doul's, 333 Geary St between Powell & Mason (about 3-4 blocks from the hotel). Google map for walking directions from the hotel to the restaurant. (Please note that the walk up Powell St. is uphill, although it's not the worst San Francisco has to offer.)

Very, very belated birthday gift for brewingtrouble, who said I'm always a fan of Sev/Lily. The word Voyeur flashed into my mind briefly, but that's asking far too much. Well, "voyeur" did have a prompting effect after all. I hope you enjoy!

A/N: This is not specifically set anywhere (aside from "outdoors") and although I've made them eighteen and was picturing summertime, it's not really anywhen aside from that. Just call it a bit of fantasy what-if.

The Azkatraz staff are asking people who are organizing special meetups to register their "Flocks" (haha, what, "BoF" not good enough for ya?) so that people can find when and where and coordinate scheduling and all that good stuff.

Despite the fact that I am a relative local (Sunnyvale) I have little experience in San Francisco and so I don't know what is around the hotel that might be a good place for a meet. (Heck, I'm not sure at this point there are enough of us to make a separate meet worthwhile.) Apparently, trying to get space within the hotel itself is also an option.

Any thoughts? You can leave me a comment if you just have a suggestion, or if this is something you would like to attend, come join us at azkatraz_ssle.

"WTF?" you may be thinking, since this is so not the kind of thing I am usually interested in. I said as much in my comment, too, but I liked the soft shading in this piece and the sensuality and drape of Hermione's body in the second (third?) panel.

DH Chapter 33 by lilyhbp (Severus, Lily, G)
Illustrations for the scene outside the Gryffindor portrait in "The Prince's Tale" are about a dime a dozen gross, but Severus's downcast expression in this is just the greatest thing ever, even though with his hair hiding most of his face you can hardly see it. I recommend taking a look at the detail in which you can more closely see their faces. The other thing about this piece is that it really shows how much she's advanced as an artist over just a few years when you compare it to the original piece that used the pose for Severus she mentions in the artist's notes. (She's taken that one down, but you could also compare it to Head of Slytherin or Best Friends, for example.)

FYI to the general populace: I'm no longer co-modding less_for_you. orpheus_samhain and I had some differences of philosophy on what my "job description" was, and since I kept unintentionally stepping on her toes, I said that I should resign after this round. She thought it would be better just to deal with it now and so it is effective today. This is all cool and stuff, no drama. I'm disappointed that I couldn't please her because I liked being involved in the exchange, but it seems it was not meant to be. So the upshot is, don't use me as a contact point for any questions or anything because I am no longer in a position to be such. (If anyone is worried about anonymity, no, I don't know the entire match-up of the gifts, since I did not create it and never saw the list. I only know the identity of the one person I am betaing.)

Older Severus/Lily (2006). Yummy and tender and sad. I especially like the way he's kissing her cheek and jaw in the last picture. I've had to re-read this a few times before the narrative actually fell together in my head, because it's told kind of backwards, but I love its dreamy quality.

This is great in so many ways. I love the Severus/Regulus content, the hints that from the first he doesn't really want to do what his family apparently expects him to, and the quiet bravery. The little bit of Severus expounding excitedly on a potion to little Regulus because he made the mistake of getting him started on the topic is just precious.

Gen with Regulus and Draco in alternating sections, eventually dealing with the locket Horcrux. Older stuff again (2005), set after the end of HBP, so canon-shafted now (albeit not that badly). I like the echoes between Regulus and Draco, and Severus gets some great lines in this:
Snape looks over at him sharply. "A coward?" he repeats. "A coward would have exulted at the opportunity before him. Dumbledore was a weak, helpless old man, without even the strength to run. A coward could have killed him."
"So what does that make me?" Draco snaps, his face flushing with shame. "Less than a coward?"
"It makes you a human being," Snape replies shortly.

Again a bit older (mid 2007). Severus/Sirius with plenty of hate in, although it's that special kind of Snacky hate that has clearly got something else going on inside of it. Focuses on how, as Sirius observes, Severus's entire existence is this constructed stage show, and how Severus gets off sexually on that. Characterization is razor sharp on both; I love Sirius's bad attitude and the aside that "Remus isn't any fun any more".

I hope to see a few certain parties that I have collected on my flist since then!

People keep faving three of my Severus/Lily stories on FFN. *blush* They seem to have accumulated a certain amount of gravity and now are attracting more. But of course, Murphy bless, of the three I wrote for less_for_you, people seem to be concentrating on the one that is my personal least favourite (Summer Shade), showing less love for the one I think was the best overall (Lilies Are Red, Roses Are Blue), utterly ignoring the personal favourite that I most enjoyed writing (Call of the Dark -- which is in fact at the rock-bottom of all my stories there in both reviews and faves, and is second-to-last in page hits), and, curiously, frequently also digging up an early piece I'm now a bit embarrassed about (Eyes Are Blind).

In other news, Care and Feeding of Severus Snape continues to be the all-time winner (although Summer Shade has 2.33 times as many hits).
