*flails* This is a scant thousand words of sheer sad delight. I know that's a strange-sounding emotion, but there it is. It makes me want to cry and smile and the images are so simple but so powerful. I would love an illustration of the scene of little Sev in his house waving at his purloined discarded tree with its gathered tinsel and single forgotten bauble.

From the script for HBP:

Slughorn, with practiced ease, mixes a concoction of powders and potions into a goblet while Ron peers into a mirror. As he paces, Harry passes “the shelf” and finds, front and center, a PHOTOGRAPH of himself and Slughorn -- the one taken at the Christmas party. In deep b.g. is photograph of Snape, as a young student, clutching his POTIONS TEXTBOOK.

I figured this called for a more practiced hand, sir.

I was excited to get hands on the DVD finally because I thought I could freeze-frame it and finally find this, but IT'S NOT THERE. Slughorn's shelf isn't in this scene at all as far as I can tell, and it's far too far away in an earlier scene ("Did Voldemort ever get on the shelf, sir?") to tell hardly anything at all about the pictures except that they contain people and someone's riding a broom in one of them. Grr. I'll have to actually watch the film and see where else the shelf appears, if anywhere, but I'm annoyed about this. Not only does it mean lack of young Severus (who ought to be there; Alec Hopkins did do the tiny bit of filming required, AFAIK) but Regulus too, who was supposed to appear in a photo like this, I thought.

Did anyone else actually find this, and could tell me where to look? (hh:mm:ss would be helpful, if so)

edit: I'd forgotten Regulus appears in the Slytherin Quidditch photo near the beginning of the film, so yay for that, even if we don't see him again. Any clues on Severus, though?

I loved the moody colour and how a frightened child grows into a sullen teenager, a disaffected adult, and then a total mystery with his back turned to the viewer. Very simply drawn but quite effective.

It looks like the HBP DVD's deleted scenes are going to be just as friggin' useless as the OOtP deleted scenes were. I don't know what else specifically I would have hoped for in this case -- I mean, I'd have liked to see Severus teaching DADA, but as far as I know that never existed, unlike the case in OotP where there was obviously more to the Snape's Worst Memory scene, so at least it's not that frustrating -- but I still feel disappointed.

"WTF?" you may be thinking, since this is so not the kind of thing I am usually interested in. I said as much in my comment, too, but I liked the soft shading in this piece and the sensuality and drape of Hermione's body in the second (third?) panel.

So after that strange interlude, here, let me make it all better:

DH Chapter 33 by lilyhbp (Severus, Lily, G)
Illustrations for the scene outside the Gryffindor portrait in "The Prince's Tale" are about a dime a dozen gross, but Severus's downcast expression in this is just the greatest thing ever, even though with his hair hiding most of his face you can hardly see it. I recommend taking a look at the detail in which you can more closely see their faces. The other thing about this piece is that it really shows how much she's advanced as an artist over just a few years when you compare it to the original piece that used the pose for Severus she mentions in the artist's notes. (She's taken that one down, but you could also compare it to Head of Slytherin or Best Friends, for example.)

Dudes! You should totally check out the awesome drawing venturous made for my drabble Family Obligations: Prince Family Portrait, 1975! She and I were paired up in the snapedom Summer Fest, but I wound up withdrawing due to an excess of suckitude. Still, she went ahead and did this anyway (which was posted as "gift to fest"). I am so taken with everyone's expressions. Severus is clearly not enjoying things (which was the point) and his uncle (Eileen's brother) looks like a serious piece of wizard. Even at this size the little details in his grandmother Prince's eyes are amazing.

A series of four illustrations for a fic on FFN called Lily's Charm. Someone remarked in the comments that one thing that makes these so great is the body language, and that's spot-on. The sparse colour palette (black/white/grey and a kind of ochre/tan colour) is very nice too; lends them a kind of "sepiatone" quality. My favourite is the third one, where it looks like Lily's just told Severus that they're going to have a son. The way he's holding her body against his and the gentle expression on his face (eyes closed, even) are just amazing.

For a photomanip of one of the promo shots of Rickman!Snape, this is really impressive. The nose and chin are not really what I see in my own head, but the way it is so totally not Alan Rickman anymore is very cool.

I'd have called this "Severus's Kiss", personally, because he looks like the instigator here. ;) Kissing is very hard to draw, and usually even when well-done I get a kind of "does it really look like that?" kind of feeling. I don't get that at all from this one. The spot where their mouths meet is just perfect.

Woobie!Severus ahoy, including big anime eyes, although he's far from bishie. I'm not sure how old he's supposed to be here; I picture it as ca. 1980. He looks so sad and lonely, and I like the gloomy green and black of the background. Also, I think I have a new fetish: Severus wearing black gloves, as he seems to be doing here.

I'm not sure why this artist does Severus with only about cheek-length hair (she does it in other works too), and he looks older to me than the 21 years he should be here, but his facial expressions and body language are great.
